Vegetation Management

Shades of Green Lawn Service, LLC offers complete vegetation management of rights-of-way, parking lots, gravel or stone lots, or for complete turf replacement.  We use non-selective herbicides that are EPA approved and applied anytime between March and October.  This offers control of vegetation for one growing season and is recommended annually.  Particularly heavy vegetation may require a second application.

Organic Materials

Shades of Green Lawn Service, LLC is an environmentally conscious company offering organic fertilizers at the request of our customers.  While it is not possible to offer organic weed or insect control, we do use EPA approved synthetics applied at a specific rate so as not to cause harm to the environment.  After all, we need healthy trees and lawns to survive!

Soil Testing

At Shades of Green Lawn Service, LLC, we strive to make sure your lawn and landscape get the nutrients they need to be healthy and thriving.  That’s why we perform a soil test, for a nominal fee to the customer, on every property to get a better understanding as to what the property needs.  We use offsite labs that do a comprehensive analysis of the soil that is particular to your area and send results that show what nutrients are present in the soil so we can accurately design a program that fits that soil type’s needs.  Soil tests are done before any applications begin.

Core Aeration

Shades of Green Lawn Service, LLC offers core aeration services to help combat excessive thatch and soil compaction.  If ignored, these conditions can have a detrimental effect on your lawn.  While we do recommend mulching your grass clippings to aid in returning much needed nutrients to the lawn, excessive thatch will build up over time.  If left alone, turf tends to root in this shallow thatch which leads to “brown out” or stress during heavy, drought-filled summers.  Also, soil compaction due to mowing, acid rain, and heavy traffic, inhibits turf to root deep within the soil where natural minerals and water reside.  Aerating the lawn helps to break up thatch and soil compaction, allowing roots to breathe and take root deeper into the soil.  This process is done by a machine that runs over the lawn and pulls 3-inch to 3.5-inch “cores” out of the ground and places them on top of the turf.  Although unsightly, we recommend leaving aeration plugs in the lawn to break down naturally, returning nutrients back to the soil.

Overseeding

Shades of Green Lawn Service, LLC recommends overseeding your lawn annually or semi-annually to improve lawn density and help provide a barrier to keep out broadleaf and grassy weeds and prevent them from overtaking turf.  We use several varieties of seed that will mix seamlessly with existing turf.  If pre-emergent grassy weed control is scheduled, we will structure your program so as not to harm new seedlings.  This service can be provided in the spring or fall as either an addition to aeration or by itself.

Power Seeding

Shades of Green Lawn Service, LLC offers power seeding to properties that are new construction or heavily wooded areas where little turf is present.  Power Seeding works where a machine is run over soil slicing rows approximately 2-inches apart, dropping seeds into the slices, then rolling over them to keep them covered so they can properly germinate.  This process helps in building new turf and is a more “bare ground” type of work.  Seed provided is a blend of grass that will mix well with neighboring grass types and is designed to grow well in all soil types.
